Sample Requirements & Process
- FFPE Scrolls (Preferred FFPE sample type): 10 FFPE scrolls, 10 microns thick, with tissue size >5 mm (0.5 cm) or surface area >25 mm2
- FFPE Slides (Only if FFPE scrolls unavailable): 10 unstained FFPE slides, 10 microns thick, with tissue size >5 mm or surface area >25 mm2
- Other formats: Acceptable depending on pathology lab practices. In general, submit material totaling > 100 µm thickness, with individual scroll ≤ 25 µm thick.
- No decal of any kind on the tissue/block, including surface decal.
- Block selection: Select the best block for recut with optimal surface area, minimal necrosis and highest tumor content. A minimal of 20% of tumor fraction is recommended (>20% neoplastic cells of total nucleated cells). If below this threshold, contact VetOmics for additional options (e.g., submission block for macrodissection to enrich tumor fraction).
- Osteosarcoma cases: please send the most representative sample, preferably tumor-containing non-decalcified soft tissue blocks. DO NOT submit decalcified tissue. If decalcified, trim in additional wet tissue. If no additional non-decalcified tissue is available, inform client to cancel.
- Labeling & forms: Label all specimen to match name on the VetOmics request form and pathology report.
- Shipping: FFPE scrolls should be placed in a small Eppendorf tube and shipped at ambient temperature.
