Founder:

Dr. Guannan Wang, founder of VetOmics, brings over a decade of expertise in cancer genomics and precision medicine, and a strong commitment to advancing cancer care for companion animals.

During her time at the University of Pennsylvania and Vidium Animal Health, Dr. Wang played a key role in integrating genomic diagnostics into routine cancer care for dogs. She has led the development of cutting-edge genomic tools and precision oncology databases, and has personally overseen thousands of canine genomic reports.

Dr. Wang has contributed significantly to the field of canine cancer genomics, particularly in understanding the genomic drivers of hemangiosarcoma. She also led research that demonstrated the clinical utility of genomic testing in guiding treatment decisions, aiding-in diagnosis, and improving patient outcomes.

Together with her co-founder and a team of dedicated advisors, Dr. Wang founded VetOmics to deliver high-quality, high-actionability genomic tests, empowering veterinarians to offer the best possible care for pets fighting cancer.

Ming Wu, PhD
Co-Founder

Dr. Ming Wu is an expert in bioinformatics, machine learning, and the computational architecture of genomics data and informatics solutions.

Dr. Ming Wu holds a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences and a PhD in Computer Science. His research expertise and publications span diverse fields, including machine learning, systems biology, and bioinformatics with applications in genomics. Currently, Dr. Wu leads the Data Sciences team within Illumina’s service and support organization. His team supports Illumina’s entire informatics software portfolio, addressing critical challenges across hundreds of accounts and implementations each year. This wealth of experience establishes Dr. Wu as a leading solution architect and a top expert in genomics data solutions.

Barbara E Kitchell, DVM, PhD, DACVIM
Advisor

Dr. Barbara E. Kitchell is a leader in veterinary oncology. She is pushing boundaries to expand the veterinary pharmacopeia.

Dr. Barbara E. Kitchell graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1979. Dr. Kitchell completed an internship at the University of Minnesota, then residencies in Small Animal Medicine and Oncology at UC Davis from 1981-1985. She received her Ph.D. degree (emphasis in Cancer Biology) from the Department of Comparative Pathology at UC Davis in 1994. Dr. Kitchell completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Comparative Medicine, Stanford Medical School from 1990-1994. She taught clinical and comparative oncology at the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine from 1994-2003, and at Michigan State University from 2003-2013. She is currently Director of Residency and Specialty Intern Training with VCA. Dr. Kitchell is an ACVIM Diplomate in the specialties of Internal Medicine and Oncology. She is past president of the Veterinary Cancer Society and Past Chair of the Board of Regents of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Dr. Kitchell is the author of over 100 scientific publications, abstracts, proceedings, book chapters, and handbooks. Like most veterinarians, she has a menagerie of dogs and cats. Dr. Kitchell also keeps busy trying to keep up with 5 adult children and an increasing count of grandchildren.

Gary brings over 25 years of digital marketing and startup experience. After scaling and exiting his own company, he has been an avid tech investor and venture builder. For the last 6+ years, Gary has exclusively focused on investing in the food/biotech space and co-created a number of pioneering companies with scientists. His love for animals has expanded his attention towards pet health topics and specifically early cancer detection in companion animals. He is passionate about translating research into impactful commercialization.

MJ Hamilton, DVM, DACVIM

Dr. MJ Hamilton is a pioneer in veterinary oncology, known for bringing oncology care directly to general practice through his world-first mobile oncology practice.

Dr. Hamilton graduated from Colorado State University in 2005. He spent two years in general practice in Las Vegas before starting his oncology residency at Michigan State University. After completing his residency Dr. Hamilton was commissioned to start multiple oncology departments in the northeast and participate in clinical trials. In 2017 Dr.Hamilton started the first mobile oncology practice in the world, Private Veterinary Specialties. He was later granted a patent for his mobile oncology design in 2023. Dr. Hamilton enjoys bettering the lives of oncology patients and working with their owners to ensure the best quality of life possible. Throughout his career Dr. Hamilton has worked to integrate novel therapy and testing to patient care as well as increase access to oncology care for pet owners.

Dr. Stephen Shaw is a veterinary oncologist and co-founder of VetPrep and VetTechPrep. He has deep clinical expertise with a passion for education and innovation in veterinary medicine. 

Dr. Stephen Shaw was a co-founder and managing partner of VetPrep and VetTechPrep, online board review sites for veterinary students and veterinary technician students who are studying for their national licensing exams. He was also a partner of Sage Veterinary Centers, a group of specialty and emergency hospitals in Northern California’s Silicon Valley. He currently continues to work in clinical practice as a medical oncologist at Sage and is an advisor for multiple veterinary-related organizations.

Dr. Brenden Boostrom is an oncologist at MedVet. He is passionate about tailoring cancer care to each pet and their family, integrating genomics, and advancing treatments through clinical trials.

Dr. Boostrom is a board certified veterinary medical oncologist practicing at MedVet of Northern Virginia. He attended veterinary school at the University of California, Davis, a rotating internship at the University of Pennsylvania, and an Oncology residency at Colorado State University. His passions are offering a broad spectrum of treatment options best suited to a family’s goals, personalized targeted therapies including genomic and chemosensitivity analysis, clinical trials to advance cancer care across species, and learning new things from unexpected sources. In the wild, Dr. Boostrom can be found playing with his 3 lovely children and 4 pets, enjoying everything Harry Potter, or watching a Caps game.
