3. Fresh Frozen Tissue

Category: Sample Requirements & Process
  1. Collect tissue: Take 2-3 small punch biopsies of the least necrotic, most representative tumor tissue using 2 mm or 4 mm punch tools. Whenever possible, sample tissue adjacent to what is submitted to the pathology lab to ensure the sequenced tumor aligns with the pathologist’s diagnosis.
  2. Avoid normal tissue: Minimize collection of grossly normal tissue.
  3. NO formalin: DO NOT place the tissue in formalin. If tissue is already in formalin, it must be processed by the pathology lab, and FFPE scrolls should be submitted instead.
  4. Tissue preparation: Place the tissue into a small sterile tube (e.g. 5-10 ml tube), no saline needed. Make sure the cap is tightly closed and no leakage.
  5. Labeling & forms: Label tube with the patient’s name and/or VetOmics ID (e.g., VOC25100011) and include the VetOmics confirmation page when shipping.
  6. Ship and hold WITHOUT dry ice:
    1. To submit immediately: ship overnight on ice to our lab.
    1. To hold: Freeze the tube in -20 until a decision is made to pursue VetOmics; Ship overnight on ice to our lab.
  7. Ship and hold WITH dry ice:
